Life Lessons I Learned From My Father

As a kid we don’t listen to our parents, don’t ask why, accept that it just is.

Miss Him Lot’s

My father was a very wise man, I just wish I would have listened more. “Lol”

When my dad would start a sentence with.

If you would just?

I knew it was time for Johnny’s words of wisdom.

“My dads name was Johnny”

Admittedly, I will tell you, I rarely  listened to his sermons

but the 1 thing he told me that to this day I guess I’ve always

gone back to if I feel like I’m getting Off Track in life.

It All Started Here…

My father taught me how to fish when I was 5 years old.

By the time I was 6, I was fishing in the local ponds on

my own. I fished all day then Id cruse home on my bike,

excited to tell my old man how many fish I caught.

He would always say, great, good job and how did your friends do?

He always had to end with a question.

Here’s the lesson

I told him I caught all the fish, which was true and I told told him with a,

I Showed Them Attitude.

My dad sat down in front of me and said, how old are ya,

10…11?   “5 Kids, I guess you loose track”

I’m 11

Do you like your friends?

Ya.

Do you hope that they stay your friends forever?

Ya.

Will you try something just trusting me that it will work?

Depends?

Ok, we both know you’re a much better fisherman then your friends.

Ya

Here’s what I want you to do,

Are ya fishin tomorrow with your buddies?

Ya

OK, after you catch the first fish, because we know you will.

Ask your buddies if they want in on your little secret to

catching all the fish.

Ok

I promise, they will say yes.

Ok, so what do I do then?

Show them the size hook you use, if they don’t have one, give them one

of yours. Show them how deep you fish, how much worm you use.

Then over the next few days, talk to them about how a real fisherman

has patience. And keep showing them until they are consistently catching

fish. Oh, and be patient with them, they’ll get it

OK

Then I want you to report back to me with what this has done for your friendship.

Couple weeks go buy and my dad asked

How’s are fishin experiment going?

Great, your a genius! They buy my pop when we stop at the store, they usually have the worms

covered and Tim helps me on my paper route a couple times per week… For Free!

That’s great but let me ask you this…

How does it make you feel when you look over and see your buddies catching fish because of you?

Really good, really really good.

Ok, I want you to remember this…

The more that you help other people, the more you”ll get back in return.

Now, I’m sure that my dad had no clue who Zig Zigler was but who knew?

Quote: If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want

~Zig Ziglar~

A lesson for the ages…

Peace~
